This past weekend we went to Long Beach for the Long Beach Marathon. On Saturday, the kids ran the 1 mile kids run and on Sunday, I ran the half marathon. We picked the kids up from school at noon on Friday and started the epic drive. Connor has had a cough for awhile, but nothing that we thought would affect our travels. However, on Friday, Connor was complaining about his tummy hurting and ended up throwing up, not once, but three times in the car. We were all relieved to finally get to our hotel at 8:30pm.
Connor decided he didn't want to run the kids race, but still wanted to watch Ryan run it. That was fine with us, so we walked to the race. On the way, we saw lots of kids who had
already finished with their starfish medals (the oldest kids started first, putting Connor and Ryan's race at the end). Connor decided he wanted a medal, so he was going to run after all. They encouraged the parents to run with the younger kids, so I ran with Connor and Ryan.
Not long after starting, Connor decided he didn't want to run and started
crying. I really couldn't turn around since Ryan wanted to run and was having fun, so I put Connor on my back, and kept chasing Ryan.
After about half a mile on my back, Connor wanted to run again and he ran through the finish line and got his medal.
I am proud of my little runners.
On Sunday, my race started at 7am. It was overcast, nice weather for running. The course was beautiful and we run along the beach for part of it.
At mile 12.5, Ed, Connor and Ryan were waiting on the sidelines to cheer me on. I stopped to give high fives before continuing to the finish line.
Then, it was time for the long drive home. Most of the drive home was in rain with lots of lightning. I sure am glad the rain held off until after the race.
